Questions To Ask before Hiring Your
Contractor
Are you a class "A" state registered
contractor? There are three classes of
state-registered contractors,
Class "A", Class "B", and
Class "C". The licensing
requirements to achieve a Class "A"
are the most
difficult to meet. Brown Building & Remodeling, Inc. is
a Class "A" state registered contractor.
What is your background and how experienced are
you in building? You do not want your project to be
training ground for
someone trying to learn the business.
Bill Brown, our
president, has over 35 years experience in
this business
and has contracted and supervised millions of
dollars
worth of residential and commercial construction and
renovation work.
Will you furnish me with a list of your past
customers? Do not ask for one or two references.
Most contractors could furnish that. Ask for 10 or more
names and telephone numbers, then call three or four. We
furnish every potential customer
with a list of references
in the "introductory Package" we mail to each customer who
calls
us for information.
Will you furnish me with trade and financial
references? You need to know whom you are
dealing with. Again, we furnish this information willingly
in our
"Introductory Package"
Will you furnish me with detailed specifications
written in easily understandable
language? More
problems and misunderstandings develop in this area than
anywhere else. Be sure you
clearly understand what the
contractor is doing and what he is not doing. We review our
specs
in thorough detail with each customer before
contracting.
Do you furnish me with a detailed drawing and if
so what is the cost? A good job begins with a
good design. We have a state-of -the-art CAD system that
allows us
to give you a 3-D prospective of the work you are
considering. Presently we do not charge for
design work on
most projects.
What happens if you the contractor become ill or
disabled? Although the size of a company does
not necessarily insure a quality job, you want to be sure
the firm has enough depth to successfully compete your
project in a timely manner. Brown
Building & Remodeling,
Inc. has the depth to insure satisfactory completion of your
job.
What insurance do you carry to protect me in case
an accident occurs? If your contractor is not
properly insured and if someone gets hurt on the job
and it can happen,
you may have to pay for the expense and
loss of income resulting from the worker being
injured. Request a copy of your contractor's insurance policy and
make sure his coverages
are adequate. We are heavily insured
and will review this with you.
What kind of guarantee do you offer and is it in
writing? Read and question the guarantee. At
Brown Building & Remodeling, Inc., we offer an
expansive written guarantee. We now give a clear and concise
unconditional one-year
warranty on all workmanship and
materials.
Do you offer financing? We work with
many leading institutions and usually can secure 100%
financing at a highly
competitive
rate.
